Asia Fruman. Aman aman
Description
This is a collection of poems: encounters with the unknowable, journeys, languages, the joys of color and sound, longing for a (sometimes abstract) home. It is also a collection of translations: Sylvia Plath gathers berries in Ukrainian, and a Scottish folk song sounds out in the mountains in Yiddish. And it is also a collection of songs: there is no sheet music in it, but if you’re lucky, melodies may slip through between the lines. The sleepless, fearless train of Ukrzaliznytsia carries tea in glass-holders, carries someone home, and someone else — into exile. In the kavana it’s smoky, two men in the corner play backgammon, and over the tables floats a voice, full of weariness and long as the road. He sings, and the strings sing around him: “Aman, aman…”
