Silva Rerum — from the Latin “forest of things,” a genre popular in the 16th–18th centuries among Lithuanian nobility, a “family book” passed down from generation to generation, in which important life events were recorded. The action of the first part takes place in 1659–1667 in Vilnius and at a remote Samogitian manor, the estate of the noble Narwojsz family.

The cycle of historical novels “Silva rerum” by art historian Kristina Sabaliauskaitė is one of the most significant events in Lithuanian literature of recent decades, one that has received attention and recognition both in Lithuania and abroad. In Latvia, the “Silva rerum” novels were included in the list of the 100 favorite books of all time among Latvians. After being published in Poland, the first novel of the cycle became a bestseller, and in 2016 it was a finalist for the prestigious Central European literary prize “Angelus.” In 2018, when Lithuanian readers chose the hundred books of the century, they awarded the “Silva rerum” cycle third place.
